Washed Away
I just had one of the coolest experiences of my life. After a walk on the beach with my sister and one of my best friends, I sat down on a bench and just sat and looked at the waves and the stars. Sitting on the beach at night while looking at the stars is one of my favorite things to do. I get so much thinking get done out there. But tonight, it was not just thinking. My heart was crying out to God- and for the first time… I heard him talk to me. I know that sounds crazy. No, I didn’t hear an audible voice. But I heard it inside of me… and I know it was Him. I would recognize that loving tone anywhere- I know that it was my Lord. I confessed that I was holding on to so much pain and so much regret and so many past failures. I spilt my heart and how it ached, I talked about how I longed for a man in my life, and I was just honest with my Lord…and I heard him respond.
“Give me your heart daughter. I can not give you your man until I am your man. Let me be your man. Let me hold you and heal your pain. Give me your hurt, I can handle it. The other guys in your life never could- but I can. Give it to me. Let me hold your hand and heal your heart. I am the only man who will never leave you nor forsake you. Let me be your number one, so that I can then introduce your number two.”
At first I just sat there. I was trying to figure out if I told myself that, or if it was really Him. But it was Him! I know it was. He then told me to go down to the water, so I did. I stood with my feet in the water watching the tide come in and out, washing over my feet over and over again. I then heard this…
“I can wash away all of your pain and hurt, just like I am washing away this sand right now. Write the things that hurt you and hold you captive in the sand. I will give you the visual of me washing it away, gone in a moment.”
I bent over and wrote different words in the sand. People that had hurt me. Relationships gone bad. Friendships lost. Things that held me captive. I wrote word after word with my finger in the sand. And after every word was written, the tide came up and washed it away. You could not even tell that it had been written there to begin with. And I knew at that moment that I was free. God had truly washed my hurt in my heart away, just as he had done those words on the sand.
I then sat on the bench and listened some more. All I felt was peace. No more words. But He was there. I could tell. He was holding me. It was the most amazing experience I have ever had, and I just wanted to write about it so that I would never, ever forget my personal encounter with my Savior.
