Day 7

Day 7- Your favorite Movie

Honestly, I hate this question. I have tons of favorite movies, and it's really hard for me to pick one favorite movie. However, I will pick one for this question. The other day I DVR-ed "Oprah"... I know, I don't think I've ever watched an entire episode of Oprah! But the cast of The Sound Of Music were reuniting and I couldn't resist. It really was a wonderful episode and now I want to watch this movie so bad! Too bad I literally have no time for movie watching! But for today, I will say that my favorite movie is The Sound of Music.

It really is probably the only movie that I can remember watching for the very first time! My mom's friend Joy let us borrow it, and I remember thinking it was going to take forever to watch because it was on two VHS's! HA! But I instantly fell in love. I think I watched it five times in one week! I was so upset when we had to give it back. Therefore, my mom had to go out and buy it for me! Now I have upgraded to the DVD version.
I mean seriously, how can you not love the Von Trapp Family singers?
Wonderful. Simply wonderful! Maybe I'll put it in today while I finish grading and doing lesson plans!

Meet Tenley Blayke....

my sweet little "niece"!
Isn't she gorgeous??? I'm in love.
Tiffany went into labor yesterday morning, and sweet Tenley arrived last night. It's killing me not being able to be there!
Tiffany is Tenley's mom. I met Tiffany my sophomore year of college, and we have been friends ever since. Tiffany is the happiest person I know. I've never seen her in a bad mood! I talked to her last night an hour before she gave birth, and even though she was laughing and talking. I don't think I would want to talk to anyone when I was about to birth a baby! Tiffany is really one of my favorite people in the world. Her husband is one of my favorite people as well. I'm blessed to have both of them in my life, and I'm blessed to have little Tenley in it, too!
I absoutely cannot wait to hold and cuddle that baby girl when I go home in three weeks! She is simply perfect. :) Babies are such a gift! Thank you, Lord, for another precious little one in my life. :)
And this is Ringlet, the bunny that Holly and I made at build-a-bear for Tenley! Her outfit matches Tenley's nursery. And her name comes from her last name (ring) and our nickname for her (sixlet). I think the bunny is just precious!
Congratulations to my favorite little family. :) I love all three of you so much!

Day 6

Day 6- Post a picture of something that makes you happy.
This is Charlie. He is one of my best friend's baby boys. And he DEFINITELY makes me happy. I love, love, love that boy. I can't wait to hug him and kiss him again over Thanksgiving break. :)
And my sweet Tenley Blayke. She was born just last night! She makes me happy too. I can't wait to hold her and kiss her over Thanksgiving as well! :)

Day 5

Day 5- Your Siblings
I love this picture. It is me and all of my siblings. But it also shows something that all five of us have in common- our love for college football. All 5 of us are seriously obsessed. Unfortunately, we don't cheer for the same teams. So this ends up in a lot of arguments during football season! It always ends up fun though. Since I have 4 siblings, I am going to quickly summarize who they are. :)

Alicean- she is 26 and the oldest of the bunch. She married my brother a year and a half ago and I have loved having an older sister. She has been such a blessing to our family, and I love love love her!
Kevin- my older brother. He is 25 and is a wireless engineer in Austin. He is seriously the best big brother a girl could ask for.
Holly- my twin sister. Without her, I'm not me. She is my other half and my best friend!
Chase- my younger brother. He is 17 and lives in Birmingham. He is seriously the funniest person I've ever known. Whenever I have a bad day, I can call him and he always makes me laugh. I love that kid so much!
I am so blessed to have 4 amazing siblings. :)

Tenley

It's my lunch break so I just checked me phone. I got a text this morning from my friend Tiffany saying that TENLEY IS ON HER WAY! I'm going to be an "aunt" again today! I am so excited! As soon as someone sends me a picture, I will post it! She is going to be BEAUTIFUL!

Day 4

Day 4- Your Parents

This is me, holly, Chase, and my dad at the beach. :)
My dad is named Cort. Technically, that's his middle name. His first name is Kevin, but he has always gone by Cort. He is 46 years old. He does a little bit of everything. He works for a company called Vistage, owns a company called ActionSportsArt and another company called Harwood Consulting. He use to own some Fitness Togethers but just recently sold them. And for the first time in his entire life, he doesn't work for a company that owns restaurants or own a restaurant himself. My dad isn't capable of enjoying down time- he thrives on working. Just the other day I was talking to him and he was telling me that the first 3 weeks of the month are his busiest because he tries to do all of his work then so that he has the last week of the month off. I laughed at him and told him to keep dreaming because even if he had that week off, he wouldn't relax and enjoy it- he would just go come up with another idea of another company to start. He laughed and agreed with me. My dad has always worked hard and provided well for his family. I will say that I never went without things that I  needed. He also loves sports, and it's probably where my love of sports came from. When I was a kid, he coached me in all kinds of sports. I played soccer, softball, and basketball. He took us to Alabama football games at a young age and we also use to go to Atlanta quite often for the baseball games. I to this day love sitting with my dad at an Alabama football game- we critique the game the entire time and high five each other and scream and holler. It's always so much fun! I wouldn't say that I'm a "daddy's girl", but my dad is definately an important person in my life. Our relationship struggled through some trying times a few years back so we aren't as close as normal dads and daughters, but I'm grateful for the relationship that we do have today.

My mom's name was Laura, but my friends and I lovingly referred to her as "Lala". We told her that would be her grandmother name one day and she liked the grandmother name but hated that we called her that. She always told us that she wasn't old enough to be called by her grandmother name yet. However, we all still called her Lala. I keep referring to her in past tense because my mom passed away almost 5 years ago after a long battle with Leukemia. She was the most amazing woman in the world though. She loved having people over to her house, so I grew up in a house that was always full of smiles and laughter and people. It's a trait that has been passed on to my sister and I as well. We have become just like our mom in the sense that everyone is always at our place. We have become hostesses just like our mom. Our mom also cared about everyone. Even the littlest things. I remember my friends coming over when they had a bad day just to chat about it. She always listened, no matter how petty the problem. She was always smiling, singing, and laughing. And she LOVED the holidays! I know I could go on and on about how wonderful my mom was, but I have done that plenty of times in my blog. For those that knew my mom, you know how rare of a woman she was and how the world has been a worse place since her death. For those of you who didnt get the chance to meet her, just know that you missed out on a wonderful person.

My parents are two completely different people. Now that I'm older and can really understand the kind of person they are, I'm not sure how they were ever together. But thank goodness they were, because if not, I wouldn't be here. :) It's been a rough road with both of my parents, but overall, I would say that I am a blessed daughter. :)

Day 3

Day 3- Your first love

This is such a tricky topic. I feel like the first time you think you are in love, it doesn't really turn out to be love. You later experience another relationship and realize that what you had before that was not love at all, and you think that this new relationship certainly is. But then life goes on, and you again realize that you didn't know what love really was.

Therefore, I will talk about the first time I thought I was in love. I later realized that it wasn't true love, but it was the first time I thought I was in love. I will leave out names though to protect the innocent (or not so innocent? haha...)

I was 16 years old and in high school. My friends and I use to go to Chickfila every single Wednesday night after church. Pretty much every youth group in town went, so it was always like a big party at the Chickfila. One particular Wednesday, I was eating dinner with my friend A and my other friend B, when a rambucious redhead appeared at my side. He had split a huge hole in his pants. He grabbed my sandwich and stuck it in the hole. I looked at him and said, "Um... that was mine?" and he said, "Craaaap. I thought that was A's...." and A is just a laughing. I said "Well, you can keep it. I don't want it now..." and he then introduced himself to me as T. I personally thought he was a little crazy!

T didn't go to my high school, but he went to a high school with a lot of my friends. We saw each other for a few Wednesdays in a row and would always end up talking. It turns out that one of my friends gave him my phone number. He started calling all the time. We would hang out on the weekends, and then he asked me on a date. We started dating, and I fell for him fast.

He was funny. charming, and knew the right things to say to a 16 year old girl to make her fall for him. We were always together and always had fun. It was only a matter of time before he told me that he loved me, and for the first time in my life, I told a boy that I loved him too.

We dated for several months and then broke up. We were then on and off again for several, several months. We could never get it back on the same page. It was like we knew that we weren't right for each other, but for some reason we just couldn't stay away.

I can honestly say that I did not get over that boy into I fell in love with another one. Who knows? Maybe T and I really were in love. Or maybe it was just one of those crazy high school things that don't mean much. I still hear from him from time to time. I never wonder, "What if?" with him. I know he isn't my one. However, I do still smile when I think of our times together. I grew a lot as a person with him, and I don't regret "falling in love" with him... rather that was real love or not. :)

Day 2

Day 2: Meaning behind your blog name.
My senior year of college, my friends and I went to Hackleburg, Alabama to help out with "Neighbor Day". While there, I heard Brianna Dean sing for the first time. She is a girl from North Alabama who sings country music. She hasn't made it big or anything, but I fell in love with her music. One of her songs is called "Bridge to Birmingham". The lyrics really applied to my life at that time. It was just one of those songs that struck a cord in my heart. That semester was rough for me because of certain changes and I just really liked that song during that time period.

Now the blog title applies more to this blog being my "Bridge to Birmingham". I grew up in Birmingham but moved to Dallas a year and a half ago. This blog has been a great way for my friends and family back home to keep up with what my sister and I are doing here. So I think the name fits pretty well. :)

I tried googling lyrics to the song, but since she is obviously not famous in any kind of way, I couldn't find it! So I decided to just type them for you. :)

Bridge to Birmingham by Briana Dean
The way the lights shine in this city
to any other girl may look pretty
but I hate it.
Left Nashville and I headed south
Almost turned around at that Waffle House
but I made it.

Everything around here still seems strange.
Guess I'm the only thing that's changed.

Chorus:
Gonna build a bridge to Birmingham
Gonna make myself forgive that man.
Got a notebook full of things to do
Love myself
Get over you.
And when I get to the other side
I'm gonna let the past just roll on by
build a bridge to Birmingham
and get over it.

You said she didn't mean a thing
With guilt you bought a diamond ring
and I threw it.
Stuffed my whole life in a duffel bag
No way I was coming back
And I stuck to it.
Those bitter memories
They're still around.
But I'm gonna take the higher ground.

Chorus x2

Oh build a bridge to Birmingham.
A bridge to Birmingham.
And get over it.
Bridge to Birmingham.

So! Today is Day 1. Which is: Introduce, recent picture, 15 interesting facts

Here goes! I'm Heather. I'm a 23 year old 4th grade teacher. I live in Dallas, Texas but I teach in Irving!
15 interesting facts:
1. I am a twin. We are fraternal, but still a cool fact. :0
2. I was born and raised in Alabama. (except for those three years that I lived in Mississippi as a toddler!)
3. I graduated from the University of Alabama in May of 2009 with a degree in Elementary Education.
4. I moved to Dallas, Texas in July of 2009.
5. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in second grade, but it is nothing like I expected. (In good was and bad ways.)
6. I have two brothers and I'm convinced they are the smartest, kindest, most perfect men in the world. My goal is to find someone like them to spend the rest of my life with.
7. I am in love/obsessed with Alabama football. Win or lose, I'm a crimson girl! I also love college football of any kind. I can watch any game and cheer the entire time.
8. I love to be creative. Rather that is painting, sewing, planning parties, decorating, etc. It is where I find I am most at peace.
9. I also love to bake!
10. My goal is to one day own a bakery/gift shop where I sell the things I make. I doubt this will ever happen, but it's what I dream about after a hard day of teaching.
11. I have moved 17 times in my life. Therefore, I hate moving. 10 of those have happened in the past five years. Yuck!
12. I love to drive. After a hard day, I love to just drive around town and listen to music. I also love to drive on road trips!
13. If I'm in a group of people where I know no one or only one person, I am completely shy. I like to listen and learn about the people around me before I actually speak up. If I am in a room full of people I know, I will be loud, talkative, funny, and perhaps obnoxious. I'm sure its hard for my friends to imagine me as being shy, but it does happen.
14. My mom was my best friend. She passed away when I was 18 and I miss her so much everyday. My favorite thing to hear is, "You remind me so much of your mom." Because if I'm even half the woman she was, then I consider myself a success.
15. I try to follow Christ in all I do. I fall short multiple, multiple times. But my goal is that everyone who knows me knows that Christ is my number one and that He is the one I am modeling my life after. Without Him, I am nothing and I have nothing.
AND for my recent picture, here is a picture of Katie and me from last weekend!

Trunk or Treat!

Today was trunk or treat at the church! I finished our costumes last night, and they turned out to be AWESOME! We got so many compliments! We also decorated our cars with mario themed items that I made and we played mario music through the speakers! It was AWESOME!

We won "best overall theme" at the trunk or treat. It was totally great and I can't wait to do it again next weekend! I will upload more pictures soon, but for now.... our costumes! We were MARIO KART CHARACTERS!
From right to left- Sarah as DK, me as Yoshi, Cali as Toadette, Holly as Toad, Kirk as Luigi, Katie as Daisy, Scott as Mario, and Julie as Peach!

This week might be my busiest week of the year, but I promise to upload more pictures soon!

Sweet Tenley's Nursery

Today on Kelly's Korner's Show us Your life, they are doing nurseries.
Obviously, I dont have a nursery. However, I have loved looking at all the nurseries. I'm a little obsessed. I have decided to quit my day job and become a nursery decorator. Ha, just kidding.
However, even though I don't have a baby of my own, I have several special little people in my life. First is my man Charlie. He is so precious! Then baby carney will be here in a month. (can you believe how fast it got here bonnie?! ok, maybe it was just fast for me...) And last but not least... my sweet Tenley will be here in ONE WEEK!

Tiffany was one of my best friends in college. Her and her husband Cody are expecting their first baby next week. And I am in love with Tenley's nursery. It is exactly what I thought Tiffany would do with decorating. (In fact, I sent her the link to the bedding!) It's so cute. I've already told her to save it all because I want to use it in my own nursery one day! Therefore, I"m going to post pictures of Tenley's nursery. :)

I love it. I love the pink. I love love love the zebra. I'm just in love with this room! Great job, Tiff. Can it just be my room? Please? :)

Sneak Peak....

I'm giving a sneak peak of our Halloween costumes. Except, you don't get to see an actual costume (that would give it away). So you get to see an accessory!  We have to make a total of nine of these because there are nine of us. They won't all be green. And it's not finished yet in this photo!

So... what is your guess? What do you think we are going to be? Hint: We are NOT going to be christmas gifts. (I thought a green box might make some of you think that...) (If you know, don't ruin the surprise!)

Counting Down til Friday!

I seriously have the best friends and they always make for the best weekends! Friday we watched the rangers and they lost... lame. Saturday we spent the day watching football (as always). Saturday night we planned our halloween costumes! Sunday we all went to church and then went thrift shopping for the costumes. Then everyone came over for dinner. We cooked dinner, watched the BCS poll countdown, made costumes, and played rockband. It was a relaxing, but fun, weekend! I loved every minute of it. Now it's Monday, and I'm longing for the weekend again!

Speaking of our halloween costumes, they are going to be A-MAZING. We are wearing them Sunday to trunk or treat at the church. I will post pictures then! Until then, you will have to wait in suspense as to what we are all going to be... :)

Thank you for all the friends we have here...

Yesterday I got to spend my afternoon at my old school with these wonderful people....
to throw a shower for my closest friend there. It was such a joy to spend the afternoon with my old grade level team. I miss them more than they know! And of course, it was a joy celebrating Bonnie's baby. I am dying to find out if that baby is a boy or a girl! Just a few more weeks. :)

I also got to spend my morning at my old school today observing 4th grade teachers. Then, I got to eat lunch with my old grade level team before heading off to training. It made for a wonderful morning.

For real, I feel refreshed. I miss that school and those people, but after spending time with them the past two days I have been reminded that I am a good teacher. It makes me feel prepared to at least finish this week off... and hopefully the rest of the year. :)
